We are delighted to report the successful commemoration of two significant milestones: the 10th anniversary of Dhamma Pubbananda and the centennial of the birth of our respected teacher, S.N. Goenka.. The event began with a “Gratitude Gathering” on October 21st, attended by esteemed members of our community, including Trustees and Assistant Teachers. The gathering was a poignant tribute to S.N. Goenka’s enduring legacy in the spread of Vipassana meditation worldwide.
The following day, we engaged in a one-day meditation course, reinforcing our commitment to Dhamma practice. Key highlights included a detailed presentation by Center Teachers Barry and Kate Lapping, which meticulously traced Goenkaji’s journey from his formative years in Burma to his pivotal role in making Vipassana available across continents. Their narrative encompassed significant events such as Goenkaji’s address at the United Nations and his instrumental role in the North American Meditation Tour.
In addition, we presented a comprehensive overview of the development and growth of the Vipassana community in the Mid-Atlantic region, culminating in the acquisition and subsequent development of Dhamma Pubbananda. The center, once a Catholic orphanage, has been carefully renovated and stands today as a testament to the dedication and service of our community.
Another highlight was the Dhamma Service Period that started prior to the gathering, an initiative that resulted in extensive cleaning and reorganization across the center, enhancing its functionality and ability to support courses. This initiative has significantly improved our capacity to serve our students and maintain the center as a haven for meditation.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their invaluable contribution to this landmark event. Your involvement is pivotal to the continued success of Dhamma Pubbananda.
